Network Performance Monitoring

Overview

Typically, it is costly and cumbersome to generate reports using switch-level statistics. To begin, a network operator has to setup either a Windows- or UNIX-based machine physically at the OMC. Then someone has to physically be there to generate the reports. In some cases, that someone has to also be a database expert to ensure the necessary data is being populated into the database.

GWS' Network Performance Monitoring Services removes all of these obstacles. GWS has developed an easy to use web based performance monitoring tool. With a fast and easy setup process, GWS dedicated servers are connected to the OMC. The tool then synchronizes with the OMC and imports the most current switch data into the central database on an hourly basis.

Easy to Access, Easy To Use

To access this tool, all the user needs is an internet access, a web-browser, login name and password. There is no software to install and no database knowledge is required. Users would have unlimited access to the GWS Secured (SSL) Website. This means all data communication via the Internet is encrypted. The web user interface is intuitive and well laid-out.

Statistics are available for the Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), Mobile Switching Center (MSC) and regarding Call Details Records (CDR).

Unique Presentation

The tool provides an understanding of the overall health of the network. Key performance statistics include:

  • Drop call rates
  • Block call rates
  • Traffic (voice, control and SMS) in term of Erlangs
  • Raw call attempts, successes and answered
  • Handover statistics
  • Channel availability and usage
  • Interference per idle traffic channel

It also provides information that can be used to assist with future network growth or budgeting. For example, through the identification of sectors that begin to exhibit blocking, actions may be taken to relieve this congestion, such as adding an extra TRX, add extra sites, switch on directed retry, etc.

The performance tool also has statistically based alarms that trigger when certain criteria are met - thus providing a quick summary of the network's immediate health.

GWS Engineering Expertise Are Included

As a part of the monitoring service, GWS engineers can perform a third party evaluation of the network performance statistics. GWS's client can receive a routine report summarizing overall network performance as well as highlighting issues that may need attention. Thus our client has another set of eyes and ears on critical network issues.
